Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Harbin – Step into the Ice City Winter Wonderland
Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, is famous for its breathtaking winter scenery and is widely known as the “Ice City.” Every winter, the city hosts the world-famous Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, one of the largest and most visually stunning winter events on earth. Under colorful lights, giant ice castles and spectacular sculptures transform the whole city into a magical frozen dreamland.
Harbin is also known as the “Oriental Moscow” and the “Oriental Paris” thanks to its blend of Chinese and Russian culture. The Songhua River, Harbin’s “Mother River,” becomes a winter playground once frozen over, with locals and travelers enjoying skating, ice fishing, and snow activities. Even the ice blocks used in the festival are harvested directly from the thick ice of the Songhua River.

Day 2: Harbin Highlights – Siberian Tiger Park, Sun Island & Ice and Snow World
Next, visit Sun Island, known as the “Little Switzerland of the East.” The International Snow Sculpture Art Expo held here is one of the biggest highlights of Harbin’s winter season, featuring spectacular giant snow sculptures in creative and lifelike forms.
In the evening, visit the world-famous Ice and Snow World, the largest ice theme park on the planet. This dazzling frozen kingdom is renowned for its grand scale, extraordinary illuminated ice buildings, giant ice slides, Ferris wheel, snow parties, and seasonal performances.
- Keep Warm: Long down jackets, thermal wear, sweaters, fleece pants, hats, gloves, scarves, and waterproof anti-slip boots are essential.
- Protect Your Eyes: Snow reflects sunlight strongly, so sunglasses are recommended. Contact lenses are often more practical than glasses in very cold weather.
- Protect Electronics: Batteries drain quickly in freezing temperatures, so carry a power bank and keep your devices warm.
- Best Visiting Time: Morning is quieter for photos, afternoon is great for sculpture details, and evening is best for the illuminated night view.
- Important Note: If your travel dates are before the official opening of Ice and Snow World or Sun Island, the itinerary will be adjusted to Volga Manor in the morning and Siberian Tiger Park plus Harbin Indoor Ice and Snow Theme Park in the afternoon.
After the tour, transfer back to your hotel for rest.

Day 3: Harbin – Hongzhuan Street Morning Market, Winter Swimming Show, St. Sophia Cathedral & Central Street
Then head to Snowman Wharf to watch Harbin’s thrilling Winter Swimming Performance. Brave swimmers dive into the icy Songhua River and perform in freezing temperatures, creating a dramatic contrast with the bundled-up audience on the riverbank.
After that, visit Harbin’s landmark St. Sophia Cathedral, the only surviving Byzantine-style Orthodox church in China. Its massive green onion dome and elegant architecture make it one of Harbin’s most photogenic sights, especially when snow is falling.
Continue to Central Street, the “First Street in Asia,” Harbin’s most iconic pedestrian avenue. Here you can admire Baroque, Renaissance, and eclectic architecture while tasting local snacks such as Harbin Red Sausage, Madieer ice cream, and Guo Bao Rou.
Walk on to Stalin Park along the Songhua River to see Russian-style sculptures and riverbank views, then finish in Laodaowai, the largest preserved Chinese Baroque district in China, where century-old buildings and local Harbin snacks create a memorable final stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3 days enough for Harbin? What is the best way to plan it?
Yes, 3 days is the most classic and efficient way to explore Harbin city highlights. You can cover the city’s core attractions in one smooth trip: arrive and settle in on Day 1, visit Siberian Tiger Park, Sun Island Snow Expo, and Ice and Snow World on Day 2, then enjoy Hongzhuan Street Morning Market, the Winter Swimming Show, St. Sophia Cathedral, and Central Street on Day 3. If you want to include China Snow Town or Yabuli Skiing, we recommend extending to 6 or 7 days.
When is the best time to visit Harbin Ice and Snow World?
The best time is from late December to late February. During this peak season, the scale of the ice sculptures is most complete and the night lighting is most impressive. We recommend entering around 3:30 PM so you can enjoy both the daylight ice architecture and the sparkling illuminated night show.
How cold is Harbin in winter? What should I wear?
Harbin winter temperatures can fall to -20°C to -30°C. We recommend onion-style layering: thermal underwear, a thick wool sweater or fleece, and a long waterproof windproof down coat. Warm hats, earmuffs, scarves, gloves, and heat pads are all essential. Our private vehicles are heated throughout the journey.
Is Siberian Tiger Park suitable for children and seniors? Is it safe?
Yes, it is very safe and suitable for families. Visitors observe the tigers from fully enclosed protected vehicles, so there is no need to worry about safety. A private tour also reduces outdoor waiting time in the extreme cold, making the experience much more comfortable for both children and older travelers.
Why choose a private tour instead of traveling independently in Harbin?
Harbin winter travel is challenging because of transportation and language. After Ice and Snow World closes, finding a taxi or rideshare can be difficult, and waiting even a short time outside in freezing weather is exhausting. With a private tour, you have a dedicated driver, no transport stress, and a professional guide to handle tickets and communication efficiently.
