Guiyang Transportation: by Air, Train, Bus, Taxi

Guiyang has a complete transportation system consisting of an extensive network of roads, railways, river and air transport as well as city buses and taxis. So it can be conveniently reached by a great number of Chinese and foreign visitors.

Getting There

By Air

Airport: Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport (KWE)

Location: about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) east of the city center

Brief Intro: Guiyang is one of the important air transport hubs in south part of China. Guiyang's main airport is the Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport (KWE) opened on May 28, 1997 and began to serve as an international airport in Jan, 2006. The terminal covers an area of 34,000 sq m (8 acres), and the airport can handle 5,000,000 passengers a year. The airport is connected to more than 40 destinations within China, including all major Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu and so on. International destinations include Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Phuket, Singapore, and Bangkok.

You can take airport shuttle bus to the downtown area, which runs daily every 30 minutes from 8:30 to 18:30. The fare is CNY 10. Alternatively, you can take a taxi with a fare of about CNY 50 between the airport and the city center.

By Train

As the capital of Guizhou Province, Guiyang is a railway hub in southwest China. Guiyang Railway Station is the intersection point of the Guizhou-Guangxi Railway, the Sichuan-Guizhou railway, the Guiyang-Kunming Railway, and the Hunan-Guizhou Railway. It servers the trains to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Zhanjiang, Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing and so on.

Also running from Guiyang are trains running to tourist destinations such as Fanjing Mountain (train to Liupanshui City), Huangguoshu (train to Yuping County), Zunyi (train to Zunyi) and between the city and Tongzi County, Kaili City and Duyun City. Also Train Maotai (between Guiyuang and Beijing) and Train Huaxi (between Guizhou and Kunming) are available here.

Located in the downtown area, the railway station can be reached by passengers taking city buses No. 1 and 2.

By Long-distance Bus

The city is located at the junction of four major segments of the national highway grid: the Gui-Huang, Gui-Zun, Gui-Bi, and Gui-Xin Expressways. So it is very convenient to every corner of the city by coach or long-distance bus.

Tourist Bus Station

Location: No. 278, Beijing Lu

The Tourist Bus Station mainly serves the bus to and from tourist attractions in Guizhou, such as the Huangguoshu Waterfall (two hours), the Dragon Palace Cave Scenic Spot, Zhijin Cave Scenic Spot and the Fanjing Mountain. Not that some buses run every 30 minutes while some run only once a day; so it is advisable to check the exact time of your bus in advance.

The bus station can be reached by public bus Nos. 1, 2, 10, 12, 13, 16, 23, 61 and 87.

Coach Terminal

Location: No. 32, Yan'an Xi Lu

This terminal operates the coaches running to and from cities and counties within Guizhou Province and neighboring provinces, such as Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and Chongqing.

Coach Station next to the local railway station

Coaches from the station run between Guiyang and Anshun, Huajiang, Xingyi, Anlong, Zunyi, Duyun, Kaili, Liuzhi, Bijie, as well as cities outside Guizhou such as Shenzhen, Nanning, Dongguan, Chongqing and Zhanjiang. Couches run hourly from 08:00 to 16:00.

Guizhou Provincial Stadium Coach Station

Location: No. 338, Zunyi Lu

Coaches here run between Guiyang and Zunyi, Anshun, Kaili and Duyun. They are available from 07:00 in the morning and run every thirty minutes.

Getting Around

By City-bus

Guiyang has many city bus lines which can take you to many tourist sites. You can take buses No.1 and 2 from Railway Station to Qianling Park throughout the day. Bus No.26 runs between Hebin Park and Huaxi, while bus No.38 between Hebei Park and Tianhetan Scenic Area.

By Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient transport vehicle, which can be hailed in the street. Usually, the taxi fare is CNY8-10 for the first three kilometers (1.9 miles) and CNY1.4-1.6 for every succeeding kilometer.

By Bicycle

If you want to have close contact with the local people and visit the city at your own slow pace, riding a bicycle is a good choice. Generally, bicycles can be hired in parks and at scenic areas. The usual cost is about CNY10 to hire one.
