Flower Stream Park

Flower Stream Park

Flower Stream Park (Huaxi Park) is the centerpiece of the Flower Stream Scenic Area, which is praised as "a pearl inlaid in plateau". Endowed with green hills and limpid river, it has hailed as “Back Garden of Guiyang City”. Not only has it attracted visitors with its stunning idyllic scenery, but also with its rich ethnic culture. Located in the south suburb of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, the Flower Stream Park covers an area of about 825 mu (about 136 acres), of which about 300 mu (about 49 acres) is water area.

Early in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), a local country gentleman began to build the park. Sequentially, he constructed towers and pavilions, and cultivated flowers and trees over there. In the 1930s, it was rebuilt as a park. The park was equipped with tourist facilities after the founding of The People's Republic of China. Then it was renamed Flower Stream Park, meaning a park where flowers are in full bloom and streams flow.

Different from man-made parks, the Flower Stream Park is natural with naturally formed hills and stream. Flower Stream, the " First Love River of China" winds through the park. Ten miles course of the river is as clear as a mirror and clearly reflects the beautiful surroundings. The stream is flanked by four mountains on two sides, Kylin Mountain (Lin Mountain), Tortoise Mountain (Gui Mountain), Snake Mountain (She Mountain) and Phoenix Mountain (Feng Mountain). Among the four mountains, Kylin Mountain is the highest one with grotesque rocks looking like the horns of Kylin, an animal in Chinese legend. Visitors can ascend to the hilltop to enjoy the full view of the park. Climb up to Phoenix Hill, visitors can overlook the stone houses, stone walls and stone village roads that crisscross the field. On Tortoise and Snake Hills, with various stones in peculiar shapes bordering the roads, the scenery is also appealing. River water rushes ahead at the foot of the mountain. Tourist can admire the beautiful scenery on a boat on the slow water of lake ponds.

Baibu Bridge (One Hundred Steps Bridge) is one of the highlights of the park. Almost a hundred stone benches are placed in the river dike in a curved line. Visitors often walk step by step on the stone benches that jut out of water; just like that they are walking on the water surface. Near the Baibu Bridge, a small villa with red tiles and white wall is quietly set among green trees.

Besides, several other bridges, pavilions, towers and gardens are available in the park, which has their own features.

Huaxi Park is particularly charming in spring when peach blossoms are in full bloom and the rural landscape at its best. October is another good time to visit Huaxi Park as ample tourist activities are conducted continuously.
