The best time to visit Chengdu are from March to June and from September to November. This periods offer comfortable temperatures and lacks the rain showers in July and August

July to August in Chengdu is an incredibly popular place to be during the school holidays, so expect the Panda Base to be crowded with chinese tourists. One thing to keep in mind: no matter when you travel between July and August, you should pack an umbrella: Chengdu is in rainy season during these months.

Another thing to keep in mind: it's nearly impossible to escape crowds in Chengdu during China's National Holiday from October 1st to October 7th. No matter where you go in Chengdu, so are other cities in China, you're bound to run into lots of tourists.

Avoid booking flights during the New Year Holiday and Chinese Spring Festival when prices are higher. Hotel prices are cheaper in the off-season as well. Savings of up to 15 percent is possible on Chengdu accommodations during the months of December through February.

Best Time to Avoid Crowd

Temperature drop significantly from December to February, so does the crowds. Those who don’t mind the chill will be rewarded with smaller crowds and queues. Remember to pack warm clothes.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is the most popular time to visit Chengdu, with daytime temperatures in the 60s Fahrenheit (10s Celsius) and 70s Fahrenheit (20s Celsius). However, hotel rates will also be at their highest. Skip the Chinese National Holiday that take place from October 1st to October 7th, all Chinese tourist flock to the city, make it extremely crowded.
